Description: Come meet your garden-match, ask questions, work a little or just hang out and learn from a lifelong organic gardener: Phyllis Davies will offer a tour of her unique farm, demonstrating easy home composting, making raspberry beds, starting tree collards, basic fruit tree care and much much more. The Davies have shared their bounty with many–Outside Now! maintains a quarter acre student-run organic farm; excess produce is often shared with the food bank, neighbors and friends. We will have a chance to get our hands dirty, too, helping with maintenance while we learn. Bring containers, boxes or bags to take home rich mushroom compost and a few raspberry plants and heads of lettuce. Also bring a dish to share for the potluck, as well as your own utensils, cups and plates. Dress for the weather!

Title: SLO Green Build Rain Water Management Guide Kick-Off

Description: Come check out SLO Green Build’s unveiling of the SLO County RAINWATER MANAGEMENT GUIDE for Low Impact Development, (LID). The Guide is a how-to manual for SLO residents. Each attendee will receive a free Guide courtesy of the Morro Bay National Estuary Program. Our featured presenter is Brock Dolman. Brock will discuss Low Impact Development from roofs to rivers and cities to seaside. SLO Green Build member Stacey White will give an update on the development of a County Green Building Ordinance (GBO), with a focus on storm water and LID measures and what is included in the CAL Green building code., and Rob Livick – City of Morro Bay, Public Services Director, will update on the city’s Storm Water Management Plan, green building incentive program and the upcoming Illicit Discharge Ordinance. Description: What to Bring: Mud shoes, warm clothing just in case, sun glasses, sun hat, sun lotion, water bottle, picnic lunch/snacks
What to Expect: We’ll get to the reservoir around 10:00 am, take a tour, talk about the natural history and vegetation, plant acorns directly into slopes. Bring a picnic lunch if you wish! Planting ends at 12:30 pm but we can stay longer and hike if there is agreement. Good times all around!

Title: Liberty High School Nursery Project Begins

Description: One Cool Earth has worked with Liberty High School over the past few years to educate students about growing and landscaping with native plants. This year, we will begin construction of a student-run, financially self-sustaining plant nursery where students will connect with the natural environment and learn practical skills motivating them to seek careers and higher education in related fields. The first six months of the program cover soils. Stay tuned for more information, and contact us if you are interested in purchasing plants or volunteering at the nursery.

Description: Join One Cool Earth to help meet our goal of planting 500 trees at Whale Rock Reservoir, a water supply for Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo. Planting follows a brief educational introduction to the project and local flora.

Title: Global Work Party, Workshops, Music, Potluck

Description: One Cool Earth will hold a native tree workshop and possibly a planting. Trees grown through our nursery program will be available on a by-donation basis–oaks and redwoods.
There will be solar oven making, biochar making, compost tub and bokashi making, seed exchange, clay seed ball making, tree planting, native plant walk, cob pizza oven making, no on prop 23 calling and outreach, bike workshops, followed by fantastic musical performances by World Wind, State of Jefferson and others.
Donation proceeds will go to no on prop 23 efforts, and opportunities for donations for other local green initiative…s.
