Description: Come find out about One Cool Earth’s work at Whale Rock Reservoir over the past 15 years. The UC Davis Agriculture Extension Native Tree Committee will host their March meeting with us this month. We will tell about our work and hopefully put grow tubes on oak seedlings.

Meet at Taco Temple in Morro Bay at 8:45 a.m. or at the fisherman’s entrance to Whale Rock Reservoir at 9:00 a.m. Bring boots, appropriate clothing and water. Snacks provided by the NTC.

Free Plant

_MG_8715Thanks to the support of our sponsors, One Cool Earth will be giving away 1600 free plants during 2011. Plants include a variety of drought tolerant, native, and/or edible plants.  Offer limited to one plant per person, plants available on a first-come first-serve basis while supplies last.  You must mention this offer or present a gift certificate to receive your free plant.  You can pick up your free plant at our nursery by contacting Greg (at) onecoolearth (dot) org or calling (760) 382-5164.  Stay tuned for upcoming events where plants will be available.

All plants are grown by students through environmental education programs where students receive job skills training, high school credits, and run the nursery as a student enterprise.  The bulk of our plants are grown at Liberty Continuation High School’s GreenWorks Plant Nursery.  Stay tuned for more events, including open houses at our nurseries throughout San Luis Obispo County!

Description: Tu’B Shevat is an ancient Jewish holy day which, among other things, stands out as a time to plant trees. Join the congregation of Temple Ner Shalom and Cal Poly students to celebrate by revegetating the temple grounds. We have already planted several hundred trees over the years, and will attempt to plant more than 100 more. Meet at the temple, bring appropriate gear for digging and personal water. Snacks provided by the temple.

Green Gravity is an open platform supporting insight and creativity towards sustainable realities. It exists to provide an environment for university and community collaborations, networking, fundraising opportunities, and overall enlightenment. The Empower Poly Coalition is a student-run organization that unites the efforts of over 25 clubs interested in the sustainability movement, ranging from renewable energy, bio-diesel, and local, organic food to global projects, fair trade, and social justice. We have gained the support of Cal Poly faculty and administration. We are continuing to work towards becoming a powerful resource for the community. Green Gravity utilizes our connections between students and citizens. It has proven to be an effective approach for gathering a diverse audience. Our hope is that it evolves into an important hub for sustainable initiatives in San Luis Obispo.
